A shocking traffic accident occurred earlier on Wednesday afternoon (20/05) when a 60-year-old motorcyclist lost his life. The unfortunate rider initially struck the mirror of a patrol car that was parked on the highway near the Anthousa toll station heading towards Elefsina while officers were citing a truck driver for not wearing a seatbelt. As a result, he lost control of his vehicle and crashed forcefully into a truck, causing his death. The Hellenic Police issued an announcement providing clarification about the tragic incident.
Fatal traffic accident on Attiki Odos – Police statement
According to the announcement, the patrol car from the Attiki Odos Traffic Department was parked on the highway near the Anthousa toll station heading towards Elefsina to cite a truck driver for not wearing a seatbelt.
As emphasized, during the brief stop the officers had activated their lights and alarm to ensure early warning for drivers.
Upon completion of the inspection and while the officers had gotten into the patrol car to leave the scene, the motorcycle with the 60-year-old driver initially collided with the rear left side of the patrol car, then broke the driver’s door mirror and ended up hitting the rear left part of the truck under inspection, resulting in his fatal injury.
A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Attiki Odos Traffic Department, while the competent prosecutor has also been informed.
