Time stood still yesterday (22/4) at the General Police Directorate of Attica when immediate response officers found themselves facing a dead young man in the Asyrmatou area in Agios Dimitrios. The signal was sent to the Operations Center and identification quickly followed. The 25-year-old son of a senior police officer serving at the Athens Police Headquarters had fallen dead after at least one stab wound to the chest. The sharp object had struck the young man in the heart. According to witnesses, the 25-year-old died very quickly. The case has now been handed over to the Homicide Division and special investigation units. Identifying, locating and arresting the perpetrator is now a matter of honor for the police force.

It was around 9:15 PM when a foreign man called the Emergency Response. In a state of confusion, according to information, he reported a man who was found bloodied and unconscious inside Asyrmatou park. He had the impression that the young man had been shot. Police officers arrived at the intersection of Asyrmatou and Elpidas streets in immediate time. The same with the ambulance station. It was soon determined that the 25-year-old had received at least one calculated stab wound to the chest. Reinforcements were immediately called and identification followed until their arrival. The young man’s personal belongings were found at the scene, so the possibility of robbery was quickly ruled out. Very close to the scene, there had been an armed incident (shooting at a souvlaki shop of a known Athens team supporter) as well as a clash between two groups of fans (conflict over a… graffiti) from January until recently. Soon, however, the scenario of fan-related motives also weakened. The young man’s name “froze” the officers in the field as well as at the Operations Center. The young man reportedly even walked a few meters trying to reach the edge of the park while bleeding. Some blood stains confirm this.
Until the early morning hours, police were “combing” the scene. Their goal was to locate even the smallest piece of evidence that would give direction to the investigation. The location where the fatal incident occurred is extremely difficult. Deep enough inside the park, store cameras would not be able to make a clear shot. However, chronological tracking of the arrival of the involved parties may provide solutions.
Residents of the area shake their heads in disappointment after this new development. This is because it confirms what they have been silently experiencing for months, as the area is plagued by all kinds of gangs and criminal elements, while there is even talk of permanent drug trafficking.
