It is worth noting that this marks the third consecutive renewal of Mr. Stournaras’ term, with the central bank governor set to lead the Bank of Greece for another six years. He has consistently emphasized that the “independence of the central bank is a prerequisite for its success. Alongside the position of responsibility comes the obligation of transparency, accountability, and the justification of its positions. It must contribute to public debate with an independent perspective.”
