AKTOR Group has added yet another link to its long chain of recently announced business deals, revealing the acquisition of a 51% stake in DEPA Emporias‘ renewable energy project portfolio and standalone energy storage units, with a combined capacity of 472 MW — while the remaining 49% stays with DEPA. This move delivers tangible benefits for both companies, which already collaborate on LNG supply through Atlantic SEE LNG.
Through its subsidiary AKTOR Renewables, AKTOR Group is acquiring a 51% stake in DEPA’s New Spes Concept portfolio. This includes hybrid renewable energy projects — solar photovoltaic systems paired with battery storage — totaling 221.1 MW across Kozani, Larissa, and Fokida, all of which have received environmental licensing, along with standalone energy storage systems with a capacity of 250 MW.
These projects were initiated under the Ministry of Environment and Energy’s (YPEN) call for merchant battery systems with a combined target capacity of 4.7 GW. Subject to securing grid connection terms for all projects, the total investment is estimated at €370 million, with an implementation timeline of 18 to 24 months. The deal significantly strengthens AKTOR’s strategic development in the energy sector, particularly in renewables.
This strategy is being executed through AKTOR Renewables, which occupies a central role in the Group’s five-year business plan worth a total of €3 billion. Renewable energy accounts for approximately 38% of that plan — equivalent to €1.1 billion earmarked for energy portfolio development. By the end of this year, AKTOR is expected to have a portfolio of 500 MW in operation (400 MW solar and 100 MW battery storage), with a target of reaching 1 GW by 2027. It is worth noting that over 650 MW of solar, wind, and storage projects are already operational, under construction, or have secured grid access.
According to the strategic vision presented earlier this summer by AKTOR Chairman and CEO Alexandros Exarchou, the ultimate goal is to build a fully vertically integrated energy platform — encompassing generation, storage, and a presence in the retail electricity market. For its part, DEPA gains a strong partner to accelerate the development and maturation of projects within the jointly held portfolio. It should be noted that projects already in operation (80 MW) and under construction (approximately 500 MW) within DEPA’s own portfolio remain fully under its control.
