Keele University in Greece, the first branch campus of a public British university to receive a Non-State University license in Athens in 2025, has announced the accreditation of its undergraduate Law program by the National Authority for Higher Education (ETHAAE). This approval marks the culmination of a sustained effort and paves the way for the launch of a program offering in-depth education in Greek law — covering private, public, and criminal law — enriched with European, international, and English legal frameworks.
Greece now officially welcomes a landmark program rooted in the academic excellence of Keele’s School of Law, which is consistently ranked in the global Top 100 for “International Outlook” (Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 2024). The four-year program bridges theory and practice through integrative coursework and innovative methods such as moot court simulations, and includes training in international law and EU law.
The program aims to equip graduates with the knowledge needed to navigate the modern challenges of legal practice, including digital justice, artificial intelligence, and commercial law — shaping a new generation of lawyers with a genuinely international perspective.
The Dean of Keele University Greece’s School of Law, Emeritus Professor of Criminal Law at Democritus University of Thrace, Aristotle Charalambakis, stated: “This is the moment we have been waiting for. With the official license in hand, we are no longer talking about a plan — this is a living academic reality. We are fully prepared to welcome a new generation of talented young people and offer them a legal education that combines the Greek legal tradition with European and international practice. We are shaping the legal scholars who will lead tomorrow.“
The School of Law will be housed in the university’s new state-of-the-art facilities in Athens, located at 33 Hippokratous Street, featuring a dedicated moot court room and fully equipped libraries and study spaces designed to foster excellence and innovation.
It is also worth noting that Keele’s School of Law in Greece includes the country’s only interdisciplinary undergraduate program in Investigative Criminology, led by Dr. Pinelopi Miniati, Biologist and Forensic Geneticist and Honorary Director of the Hellenic Police Forensic Science Division.
