Following the acclaimed journey of “ARCADIA” by Giorgos Zois, which represented Greece in the Oscar race, Vodafone TV is reinforcing its commitment to creators with an international footprint and a contemporary cinematic vision through its second international film co-production, “TITANIC OCEAN” by Konstantina Kotzamani.
The film made its long-awaited world premiere in the “Un Certain Regard” competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival — a landmark platform for bold cinematic storytelling and emerging creative voices pushing the boundaries of film narrative and aesthetics.
Konstantina Kotzamani has built a remarkable international career in recent years, with her short films screening at the world’s most prestigious festivals. From Berlin with “Washingtonia” and Venice with “Electric Swan,” to Locarno with “Yellow Fieber” and “What Mary Didn’t Know,” the filmmaker returns to Cannes a decade after “Limbo” screened at the Critics’ Week.
In “TITANIC OCEAN,” 17-year-old Akame dreams of becoming a mermaid. Caught between the demanding world of her training school and the breathtaking underwater realm of aquariums, she learns to hold her breath before thousands of spectators, swimming alongside real sharks. Navigating between apnea, exhausting choreography, and first love, she discovers her own voice — transforming her drive for success into a deeply personal metamorphosis.
“TITANIC OCEAN” is produced by Homemade Films and co-produced by Wunderlust, deFilm, Manny Films, Frida Films, Happinet Phantom Studios, Mam Film, Bayerischer Rundfunk, ERT S.A., Vodafone TV, and Onassis Culture. The film is an international co-production between Greece, Germany, Romania, France, Spain, and Japan, realized in collaboration with Quiddity, Finite Films, Felony, Arte, and Avanpost Media.
