The Inter-Municipal Solid Waste Management Company (DEDISA) recorded a dynamic participation in the 5th Attica Green Expo 2026 through its informational pavilion. This year’s Attica Green Expo took place from May 27 to 30 in Paleo Faliro and represents an important institution for informing and raising awareness primarily among student youth about the environment, sustainable development and circular economy, bringing together Local Government bodies, organizations, educational institutions and businesses from across the country. Simultaneously, thematic discussion panels and round tables on environmental issues were organized.

Within this framework, Panagiotis Simandirakis, Mayor of Chania and President of the FoDSA Network participated in a particularly interesting panel with representatives from Regional FoDSA bodies, local government officials and industry experts, with the theme “Environmental transition at local level: priorities, choices and new balances”, where he emphasized the need for rational planning and acceleration of funding for the development of waste management infrastructure, warning that the country risks losing a critical opportunity to achieve its environmental goals. Additionally, he expressed his concern about the funding “gap” that may arise from the return of landfill fees amounting to 600 million euros to municipalities, which is pending at the Council of State.

During the exhibition, DEDISA staff informed visitors at the organization’s exhibition pavilion about the actions, services and Source Separation programs implemented in Chania, as well as initiatives carried out to enhance citizens’ environmental awareness. Emphasis was also placed on presenting the products manufactured at the Mechanical Recycling and Composting Plant (MRCP) in Chania, with demonstrations of the produced soil-improving compost and mulch (ground cover), where visitors had the opportunity to learn about the characteristics and uses of these products, as well as their contribution to the circular economy.
DEDISA’s participation in the 5th Attica Green Expo 2026 represented an important opportunity for knowledge exchange and establishing collaborations with Local Government bodies, as well as with Alternative Management Collective Systems.
