Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Greece following the new energy agreement signed between the two countries.
In a social media post shortly after their meeting, the Ukrainian president spoke of an “extremely important agreement that ensures Ukraine’s natural gas supply,” while thanking Athens for the steady support it has provided to Kyiv throughout this period.
Volodymyr Zelensky: His statement
From the very first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Greece has been helping us, working together with Europe and with other partners so that we can reach the conditions under which peace becomes possible. And we truly value your support and your commitment. Today we have an extremely important agreement for Ukraine’s natural gas supply – during my meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a letter of intent was signed regarding Ukraine’s natural gas supply for the winter period.
Most of Ukraine’s power generation plants, natural gas production facilities, and thermal power stations have become targets of missiles and drones. Our agreements with Greece today constitute a significant part of the major energy package we have prepared for winter to ensure Ukraine’s natural gas supply. Deliveries will begin as early as January. In addition to the agreement for immediate supply, there are also long-term agreements.
I am grateful to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the team, the companies, and everyone who contributes to achieving such agreements and ensuring their implementation. Thank you, Greece.
