Panic erupted this morning in Nikaia, when a vehicle belonging to a correctional officer, according to information from the Hellenic Police, was engulfed in flames on Euripides Street, at the intersection with Plato Street. Specifically, at 03:30 in the early morning hours, unknown perpetrators set fire to the vehicle using flammable materials, which was later extinguished by the owner. Later in the morning, his wife called the emergency services after a hand grenade was discovered in the front yard of their house.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Hellenic Police was immediately called to the scene and has taken control of the situation. The area remains cordoned off by police forces, and due to the ongoing inspection and neutralization operation, vehicle traffic has been suspended on Euripides Street from the intersection with Plapouta Street.
