“Ms. Ioanna Touni requested the trial be conducted behind closed doors, because reliving the psychological trauma inflicted on her in 2017 by the defendants causes her mental anguish. Also, she does not wish for her personal ordeal to be turned into a show“. With these words, the lawyer representing the well-known influencer and businesswoman Ioanna Touni, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, explains in an exclusive statement to parapolitika.gr the reasons why his client requested that the trial for the revenge porn case be conducted behind closed doors.
Michalis Dimitrakopoulos to parapolitika.gr: Exclusive statements on Ioanna Touni and the revenge porn trial
As the renowned criminal lawyer emphasized, “the defendants’ position that they are the victims of this sordid case creates a painful impression“. According to him, “Ioanna Touni was unknowingly filmed and photographed during sexual contact with one of the two defendants, and this deeply personal moment was distributed by the defendants to an unlimited number of people“. As he points out, “the moral damage inflicted on Ioanna Touni is devastating and continues to this day“.
Mr. Dimitrakopoulos also states that the strongest piece of evidence is the illegal video, “which captures the sexual act. Her ‘partner’ smiles at the person filming the woman-trophy. Otherwise, he claims the cameraman is unknown to him“.
He adds that, according to Supreme Court jurisprudence under the presidency of Ioanna Klapa, the crime the defendants face is a felony. “Regarding the legal dimension of the case, the Supreme Court, with Ms. Ioanna Klapa as president, a distinguished jurist with impeccable judicial ethics, has ruled that the crime the defendants face is a felony even when the damage is only MORAL. Not everything is valued in money” Mr. Dimitrakopoulos also emphasized.
Two defendants charged
The trial for the case began Monday, November 10 before the Three-Member Court of Appeal for Felonies in Thessaloniki and will continue on November 28. Following a request by Ioanna Touni, which the defendants also agreed to, the proceedings were decided to be conducted behind closed doors due to the sensitive personal data included in the case file.
The case involves the leak of a video with erotic content depicting Ioanna Touni during a sexual act, for which she had not given consent to be filmed. According to the indictment, the video was initially distributed to three people and subsequently uploaded to pornographic websites. Two individuals are charged with the leak: her then “partner” and the person allegedly responsible for filming the incident. The trial was postponed last spring, while Ioanna Touni states she is waiting for justice to be served in a case that, as she emphasizes through her lawyer, “caused her deep psychological trauma and continues to accompany her to this day“.
