The European Union has moved forward with a new sanctions package targeting Russia’s “shadow” fleet and banning imports of liquefied natural gas.
The Danish EU presidency announced the move, with the country’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stating: “Today is a good day for Europe and Ukraine.” The EU approved the package after Slovakia lifted its blockade.
Rasmussen declared that the new sanctions “will introduce new and comprehensive measures for Russia’s oil and natural gas, illegal fleet and financial sector.”
This move by the EU follows Donald Trump’s sanctions targeting two of Russia’s largest oil companies.
