On November 1st, the electronic General Registry of Wills will be put into operation, as government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced today, Monday (20/10), during the regular briefing of political editors. “This means that the publication of wills – handwritten, secret and public – will now be done through the digital platform diathikes.gr,” the government spokesperson continued.
The advantages of the General Registry of Wills initiative
Subsequently, Pavlos Marinakis mentioned some of the advantages of the General Registry of Wills initiative – both for citizens and notaries. Specifically, as he noted, the advantages are as follows:
- It becomes easy for citizens to check whether or not a will has been deposited nationwide with a notary or consul.
- The certificate regarding the existence or non-existence of a will is issued the same day.
- The time for publishing the will is minimized. It can be carried out by the notary even on the same day.
- The time for issuing the publication record of the will is minimized, as it is issued on the same day of publication.
- The inherited property can be immediately utilized by the heir.
- The number of handwritten wills of “questionable authenticity” is reduced.
- Courts are relieved of workload burden.
