The mystery surrounding the thriller case of the double murder in Finikounda is slowly unraveling, as a 22-year-old surrendered to Athens Police Headquarters, claiming he was riding on the scooter with the perpetrator of the crime at the camping site and described to police everything that happened at the camping site that cost two people their lives. The young man appeared in the morning with a lawyer at police headquarters and declared his willingness to testify to the Homicide Department about everything he knows regarding the case. According to his lawyer, his decision to surrender came after the publication of the video showing the scooter.
Specifically, the 22-year-old’s lawyer, Charalampos Lykoudis, spoke about the case, arguing that there were no financial motives from inheritance for the attack, while emphasizing that the purpose of the two motorcycle passengers was to intimidate and extort money from the camping site owner, with the murder subsequently occurring as he explained.
Moreover, Mr. Lykoudis mentioned that the motorcycle driver had no relationship with the victim, unlike his client who had a “personal and painful relationship.”
Furthermore, the 22-year-old’s lawyer emphasized that his client was the one who had carried out the two intimidation attacks against the 68-year-old, shortly before the murder, which he also admitted to the authorities.
Specifically, Charalampos Lykoudis emphasized: “He came forward voluntarily and placed himself at the disposal of justice. He is a 22-year-old Greek citizen with no previous criminal behavior. He has no family relationship with the victim and there is no property motive as has been heard until today. There is no issue of moral responsibility. Everything that has been heard until today about property matters does not correspond to reality. He was a passenger on the motorcycle from the known footage, he is the child in shorts in the back seat.”
When asked if he has provided information about the perpetrator, Mr. Lykoudis answered: “of course!” When asked if the perpetrator and motorcycle driver had a family relationship with the victim, he categorically replied: “None” and added: “To move forward a bit, the only relationship that existed with the victim was that of my client. It was a personal and painful relationship. I honor the memory of the victims and I cannot say anything more.”
“There was no motive to take a life”
When asked if only his client had a motive for the murder, Mr. Lykoudis said that “There was no motive to take a life. They didn’t go there to intimidate him, they went to blackmail him and extort money from him. The murder emerged from the incident. It wasn’t in their plan to go and kill a person. They went to ask him for money.”
“It was my client and he was alone” he answered when asked if the 22-year-old was involved in the two attacks against the camping site owner outside his house and outside his business.
However, investigators believe that at least three people are involved in the double murder, meaning there is also a mastermind, while the perpetrator of the double homicide at the Finikounda camping site continues to evade capture.
The timeline of the murder
It should be recalled that the homicide occurred on the evening of October 5th at a camping site in Finikounda, when the perpetrator, with covered facial features, broke into the reception where the 68-year-old owner was located along with the 60-year-old supervisor and longtime friend.
The gunman shot the owner in cold blood, fatally wounding him, while subsequently killing his friend as well, who was trying to escape. It’s worth noting that the owner’s nephew was also present during the double homicide, who managed to get away.
