The weather scenario is changing again, as a new 48-hour severe weather system is expected to hit our country from Sunday evening (5.10.25) with rain, thunderstorms, gale-force winds, temperature drop and local hailstorms. Specifically, according to meteorologist George Tsatrafyllias, the low-pressure system “Barbara” from the Gulf of Genoa will reach our country and will strike for 48 hours with rain and temperature drop affecting western Greece, Chania, Macedonia, Thrace and the North Aegean islands.

“The low-pressure system with the code name ‘BARBARA’ reaches our country from the Gulf of Genoa,” the meteorologist notes in his Facebook post. As he reports, gradual deterioration will occur from this evening for 48 hours with rain, thunderstorms, gale-force northerly winds, temperature drop and local hailstorms.
“This is a classic seasonal weather change that will sweep our country from west to east and is more beneficial than dangerous!”, he adds and continues:
“The areas that will receive the highest rainfall amounts and require special attention are: Monday: western Greece, Chania, Macedonia, Thrace and the North Aegean islands. Tuesday: Thrace, North and East Aegean islands, northern Cyclades and Dodecanese. The temperature will drop by up to 8 degrees until Wednesday. At noon it will be close to 20 degrees.”
“The cold will be noticeable early in the morning and evening, especially in northern Greece where we will have single-digit temperatures. On Monday and Tuesday, northerly winds in the Ionian and westerly winds in the southern Aegean will reach 8 Beaufort. From Wednesday and for several days, no other system appears to affect us, with temperature close to normal seasonal levels,” concludes George Tsatrafyllias in his post.
