A woman remained trapped in her car for three hours in Neochori, Messolongi when this Wednesday morning (1/10) it “sank” into a massive pothole filled with water near her home. Specifically, this pothole was created by construction work undertaken by the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Messolongi (DEYAM) and remained untouched for a long period, causing problems for the local community. According to aixmi-news.gr, the pothole had been opened some time ago by DEYAM for maintenance and repair work. After completion of the work, workers attempted to cover the area with soil, however the solution was temporary and the pothole remained exposed for a considerable time, as local residents report.
Messolongi: Heavy rainfall created problems
According to the same sources, the road where the pothole is located had been asphalted, which had brought satisfaction to residents as it improved daily access to the area. Nevertheless, prolonged negligence regarding restoration of the pothole created serious danger, which became apparent during rainfall.
The heavy rainfall that occurred resulted in the soil that had been thrown into the hole being washed away, filling the pothole with water. The driver did not notice the presence of the large depression, which now had a depth of at least half a meter. When the car got stuck in this trap, the woman found herself trapped for three hours, until she managed to be freed with the help of passersby and authorities.
