After postponing his meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Recep Tayyip Erdogan also postponed his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York. According to Italian media, including state television RAI, Agenzia Nova news agency, and financial newspaper “Il Sole 24 Ore,” the Turkish president was scheduled to meet with Meloni on Tuesday (New York time), the same day that had been agreed for the postponed meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
However, the Meloni-Erdogan meeting was postponed, with Rome media citing scheduling constraints for both leaders. It is unclear whether the postponement was requested by the Italian or Turkish side. So far, there has been no update on whether efforts to reschedule the meeting have been successful.
It should be noted that Tayyip Erdogan’s associates requested the Greek delegation in New York to postpone the meeting with the Greek Prime Minister because the Turkish president was called to participate in a briefing by US President Donald Trump with leaders of Arab and Muslim countries, focusing on Gaza.
Despite efforts, no new time slot could be found that would accommodate both leaders.
