The Turkish business magnate Ali Sabancı, owner of Pegasus Airlines, has not forgotten the Leros hospital that saved his life after the shocking boat accident he and his family experienced in the summer of 2023. According to the website Lerosnews.gr, the Turkish businessman made a donation of €115,000, which was accepted by Leros Hospital.
Gratitude for the night his life was saved
The donation money will be used to purchase a modern surgical bed and special lighting for surgeries. Mr. Sabancı expressed his special gratitude to the medical and nursing staff of Leros Hospital for their critical contribution during that difficult night, when he received the first, life-saving medical care.
Special mention was made of surgeon Dr. Georgios Krasonnikolakis, who reportedly “fought” to keep him alive.
Family’s health in good condition
Mr. Sabancı himself and his family members are recovering and are in very good condition, having experienced a traumatic ordeal that, as they emphasize, they will never forget.
According to the same sources, Mr. Sabancí is expected to visit Leros soon to personally express his thanks for the support he received from the medical staff and the island’s hospital.
The timeline
It’s worth noting that in August 2023, the Turkish businessman had a serious boat accident in Leros. The couple was seriously injured when the speedboat they were traveling in crashed into rocks off the island.
Ali Sabancí was initially transferred to Leros State Hospital where doctors fought heroically and managed to keep him alive, but due to the severity of his condition he was transferred to a private hospital in Constantinople, where he was hospitalized in intensive care in critical condition.
“Yesterday we saved two human lives. We are proud of our medical staff. For doctors Krasonnikolakis, Baliakos, Keramaris and our entire surgical team, who operated on our two fellow human beings all night yesterday and ultimately SAVED them. We want EVERYONE TO FEEL SAFE WITH US. We continue, but we must also recognize such important efforts,” the hospital’s post about the incident stated.
