“It’s a phase where you realize that alarm bells are ringing and you have to listen to them. I had an addiction, cigarettes. For the past 10 days I haven’t been smoking. It’s logical to be scared. Check with me in a year to see if I’ll continue not smoking – the first days are easy to do.” These were the statements made by New Left secretary Gabriel Sakellaridis, speaking about his health ordeal. It should be noted that he had to undergo surgery for stent placement, spoke about the symptoms he experienced and the “decisive” intervention, as he said, of his wife Rania Tzima.
Sakellaridis on his health ordeal: “I felt pain, not something extreme that would make you call emergency services”
“I think I won’t smoke again. Many times you think you’re somewhat untouchable from such issues and it doesn’t cross your mind, you say I have time, I’m young and I’m careful about other things, but you don’t know where it will come from. It’s important to get our checkups and listen to our bodies,” Mr. Sakellaridis added speaking to Mega.
Describing what happened and led him to the hospital, Mr. Sakellaridis said “I felt pain, not something extreme that would make you call emergency services. It wasn’t something familiar but you could say it was nerve pain or something muscular. I could have dismissed it if I wanted to avoid it. Sometimes it rings alarm bells, and you have to keep your ears open, lose a little time, you won’t be embarrassed if you tell the doctor you’re in pain.”
He confessed, in fact, that “I could have not gone. I went by myself, took the car, I discussed it with Rania too, it was critical that Rania told me to go. The thought crossed my mind ‘why get involved, it will be nothing.’ But you’re not invulnerable forever, that’s the moral lesson.”
