Donald Trump appears to share views with Benjamin Netanyahu, as the former president declared his categorical opposition to the official recognition of Palestine announced on Sunday (21/09) by Canada, Britain and Australia, emphasizing that it constitutes “a reward for Hamas”. It should be noted that the Israeli Prime Minister had stated that this initiative “offers a huge reward to terrorism”.
White House on official Palestine recognition: “Just words”
Specifically, according to White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt, Donald Trump believes that recognizing an independent Palestinian state constitutes “a reward for Hamas”, while speaking tomorrow at the UN General Assembly, he intends to inform the countries that proceeded with this initiative – including France – that these are “just words and not concrete actions”. Additionally, as Leavitt states, the US president will attack “organizations that support globalization” and “undermine the global order”. The White House spokesperson noted that Trump will have bilateral contacts with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the leaders of Ukraine, Argentina and the European Union during his stay in New York. She also informed that he will participate in a summit with leaders of many Muslim countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
Netanyahu: “Reward to terrorism”
It should be recalled that the Israeli Prime Minister emphasized yesterday that the recognition of the Palestinian state by Britain, Australia and Canada “offers a huge reward to terrorism”. Specifically, he noted: “I have a clear message for the leaders who recognize the Palestinian state after the horrific massacre of October 7th: you are offering a huge reward to terrorism. I have another message for you: this will not happen. No Palestinian state will be established west of the Jordan River. For years, I have prevented the creation of this terrorist state despite enormous pressures, both domestically and internationally. We have doubled the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria (the name Israel uses for the occupied West Bank) and we will continue on this path,” he added.
