New revelations come to light about the Syrian man with Palestinian nationality, who was arrested in Aigaleo for attacking three women, and was earlier identified by the Fire Department’s investigative unit as the Hymettus arsonist. According to Mega’s reporting, the arrested man is connected to terrorism, specifically alleged to have been – as he himself declared – a member of the Islamic State. Moreover, the 32-year-old who set fires on Hymettus allegedly claimed to firefighters that he was approached by another ISIS member at an immigrant detention center in Turkey, who goes by the name “Mohamed”.
The 32-year-old, according to his claims to firefighters, said that Mohamed (if this is the real name he gave to authorities) has left Turkey and is now in Germany. In fact, it was with him that the 32-year-old crossed from Turkey to Kos, until their paths separated.
The arrested man allegedly also said the following: “For every arson I was given 100 euros. They gave me 100 euros to set the fires.” This fire on Hymettus broke out on September 7, the 32-year-old was spotted but released and later arrested in Aigaleo for attacks on women, two minors and a 58-year-old. According to MEGA, the 32-year-old from Syria did not declare a residence address and it is being investigated whether his claims are true.
Aigaleo: The 32-year-old metro exhibitionist and Hymettus arsonist
It is recalled that the fire had broken out on September 2, late in the afternoon near Agiou Ioannis Avenue in the Byron area with firefighters finding material that recorded the defendant’s departure from the scene. Fortunately, the fire that broke out was brought under control in time, before it could spread and destroy the already suffering Hymettus forest, and potentially threaten homes. The evidence collected was deemed complete and sent to the competent prosecutor who issued an arrest warrant against the young man.

Video evidence of the 32-year-old exhibitionist’s actions in Aigaleo metro
Specifically, two minor girls aged 14 and 17, as well as a 58-year-old woman, became targets of the disturbed exhibitionist. The perpetrator was arrested following investigations by police officers, who received complaints from the three women within hours. In one case, the perpetrator, following one minor, entered a building’s pilotis, where he masturbated. The perpetrator is the man who appears in the visual material secured by parapolitika.gr.
In the video, the 32-year-old exhibitionist appears to follow the minor into an apartment building. The terrified girl enters the parking area and looks toward the street, to see if the perpetrator is still following her. Seconds later he arrives at the spot, where he pauses briefly, enters the pilotis and there satisfies his sick desires. Moreover, the 32-year-old, wearing yellow shorts and a gray shirt, opens the pilotis door and stands at that spot watching the girl.
The 17-year-old, as heard in the video, tells him to leave, however the 32-year-old ignores her. “I’m going to call now, go away,” the girl tells him, while the perpetrator ignores her. “Tell mom to come down now,” the girl then says into the intercom. The 32-year-old, indifferent to what’s happening, puts his hand inside his shorts and begins to masturbate. “Go away, can’t you see there are cameras?” the 17-year-old shouts at him, while at that moment the building door opens and she goes up to the apartment where she lives. Then the 32-year-old also enters the pilotis and heads toward the back part. Two girls then exit the building to search for the Syrian man. However, they cannot locate him, as he was hidden in the back side of the parking area. Later police found him, arrested him and took him to the Aigaleo Department.
How the 32-year-old Syrian operated
There the perpetrator was recognized by the three victims as the man who attacked them. As it emerged, he is a 32-year-old man from Syria, who may possibly be behind some other attacks that have occurred in the area. His method of operation was specific: he approached his victims, in some cases touching them on the chest or buttocks, while speaking obscenely to them. The perpetrator, who was arrested on Marmara Street, near the Aigaleo metro station, was already led to the competent Athens prosecutor.
