Scenes of panic unfolded at a circus in Brazil when an acrobat performing a dance routine suspended by her hair fell into the void. Aliane Dias was presenting the impressive show, hanging only by her hair, but suddenly became detached and collapsed during the performance on Saturday night in Miracema, northeast of Rio de Janeiro, according to the New York Post.

The shocking video shows Dias in a pink dress as she lifts herself to spin in the air before falling with a horrific sound onto the stage, while the audience screams in terror. Rescuers rushed to offer assistance before she was carried away on a stretcher.

The circus, Circo Robatiny, stated the following day that the acrobat “was quickly rescued” and transported for “immediate and effective care.” The circus also attributed the fall to Dias herself and not to equipment failure. “In this act, the acrobat is suspended by her hair with the help of a steel cable, and the artist herself is responsible for the binding, according to protocol,” noted Circo Robatiny, adding: “The reason remains unknown; we await her return and full recovery to learn more details.”
Despite the terrifying accident, the troupe continued normally with their next performance the following night as scheduled.
