One of Greeks’ most beloved habits, souvlaki, is tending to evolve into a luxury item, as the wrapped gyros in Crete has exceeded 6 euros, while in many cases it approaches 7 euros…
Research conducted by the local Cretan media creta24.gr on electronic food delivery platforms found that the price of pita gyros has skyrocketed, with the times when a wrap cost just 2.50 euros seeming very distant and without return.

As characteristically shown in the photos, in many grill houses the traditional and beloved dish has significantly broken the 6 euro barrier and its price has “locked in” around 6.5 euros.

Some establishments are more “economical” and maintain the price at just 6 euros.

If someone attempts to replace the gyros, whether pork or chicken, with a burger patty or pancetta, they must be prepared to reach even deeper into their pocket as they will need to spend over 7 euros for just one wrap…

According to industry business owners, the rise in raw material prices has caused a “rally” of increases for pita gyros and souvlaki prices as well, as reported by creta24.gr.
