The dramatic moments that unfolded in Holargos on Tuesday, when the alarm sounded for a fire in an apartment, caused by Molotov cocktails thrown by a barricaded man, were described on Facebook by a firefighter’s wife.
While police officers remained at a safe distance, the apartment became engulfed in flames. According to the firefighter’s wife’s description, the commander of the 4th Fire Station announced he would intervene alone to extinguish the fire. However, her husband, as she wrote on social media, ignored the order and decided to enter the area with him. “I ignore the order, I won’t leave you alone. We’ll go in together,” he reportedly told his commander.
“And I was left wondering: If I had lost you, so heroically, how much comfort would that have given me?” the firefighter’s wife questions in her post.
What the firefighter’s wife wrote on Facebook
“When exactly does the sense of duty embrace self-sacrifice? Yesterday in the incident with the 57-year-old, a victim of mental illness, who was firing Molotov cocktails with a crossbow and in whose house an entire arsenal was found, the following happened:
During one of the Molotov attacks, the apartment caught fire. Police forces maintained a safety distance of approximately 150 meters. The commander of the 4th Fire Station who was on the field declared: I will go inside for extinguishing and the order is clear, I will go in alone.
And my husband stood tall: I ignore the order, I won’t leave you alone. We’ll go in together.
That’s how they rushed in for extinguishing at the risk of their lives, as in the meantime from the safety distance a police officer had already been injured, lightly. This morning in the shift report they awarded commendations to my good man.
And I was left wondering: If I had lost you, so heroically, how much comfort would that have given me?
P.S. The little dog inside the house, he had actually killed it himself before they could intervene. I’m not uploading the video, it’s harsh.
P.S.2 My good man after the intervention.
