The Deputy Minister of Sports, Giannis Vroutsis, sent a clear message to “heal the wounds and clean up the sport,” as he addressed the future of Greek basketball in the wake of a major match-fixing scandal that has rocked the country and led to multiple arrests.
Vroutsis on the basketball scandal: “Complaints are being investigated daily”
Speaking on ERT on Saturday morning (24/10), Vroutsis indicated that he would make a formal statement on the matter next Tuesday, once the defendants in the high-profile case have completed their testimonies before the court. He was notably candid, however, stating that “I cannot impose, but I can point the way.”
“Because all of this has shaken public trust in sports, starting from Tuesday I will take a position… I cannot impose, but I can point the way,” he stressed. He also noted that complaints are received “in total, every day… and are being examined by the Ministry of Sports.”
