New Democracy has approximately five “clean” months of governance ahead before the final stretch of the pre-election period begins — a phase the country has already informally entered. Party headquarters on Pireos Street intends to make the most of this window to prepare and communicate New Democracy’s program and electoral commitments for the next four-year term, built around the following three pillars:
– Prosperity: A focus on convergence with Europe through income growth, reduced unemployment, and enhanced economic competitiveness.
– A safe and strong Greece: Upgrading the country’s deterrent capabilities, strengthening its geopolitical role in the broader region, and reinforcing internal security.
– Institutional renewal: Modernizing and digitalizing the state (including platforms such as gov.gr) and improving the functioning of public institutions.
New Democracy activates its base ahead of the 2027 election program
A broad meeting was held yesterday at New Democracy’s central offices on Pireos Street, focused on drafting the party’s program for the 2027 elections. The session was chaired by Kostis Hatzidakis and attended by senior party figures including Kyranakis, Smyrlis, Kontadakis, Lembesis, and Georgiou. The meeting extensively discussed strengthening the role of party organizations that emerged from last November’s internal elections, as well as party bodies and grassroots members, in co-shaping the program. It was announced that through a dedicated platform — accessible to all active party members until December 15 — proposals for New Democracy’s governing program for the next four years will be submitted.
According to party sources, with a horizon set on Greece in 2030, New Democracy is preparing its governing program for the next four-year term through a process that combines policy proposals developed by working groups with input from the government, the Parliamentary Group, and the party’s grassroots base. The process was initiated when Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis assigned coordination of the program’s development to Deputy Prime Minister and New Democracy Vice President Kostis Hatzidakis.
From the outset, the following core programmatic directions have been defined:
- A more productive economy, with emphasis on research, its connection to businesses, technological modernization, and the harnessing of artificial intelligence.
- Social policy, with priorities including family support, addressing demographic decline and the housing crisis, equal opportunities, and regional development.
- A modern and transparent state, with more effective governance, strengthened public trust in institutions, and the leveraging of constitutional reform.
- A stronger international presence for Greece, through enhanced defense capabilities and an expanded geopolitical, energy, and diplomatic role.
Throughout these months, the same sources emphasize, systematic work on the program has been underway under the coordination of Mr. Hatzidakis and in collaboration with Minister of State Akis Skertsos. Working groups — comprising technocrats and ministry officials — are developing proposals across specific policy areas, linking political priorities to concrete interventions and drawing on both governmental experience and international best practices.
Party sources also recall that during his recent speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlined the framework of the new governing program. Among other points, the Prime Minister referenced the following commitments:
- Incomes and employment, targeting an average wage of over €1,800 and a minimum wage of €1,000.
- Investment and public debt, with targets of €65 billion in investments and debt below 110% of GDP by 2030.
- Institutional reforms through constitutional revision, with reference to Article 86 and public sector performance evaluation.
- Water management and bureaucracy reduction, leveraging technology.
- Social care, including expanded early childhood services, elderly care, and preventive healthcare.
- Defense and security, with completion of the armed forces enhancement plan.
