A shocking new development has emerged in the disappearance and murder case of British tourist Steven Cook in Malia, Crete. The 20-year-old had disappeared on September 1, 2005, on the first night of his vacation, and his remains were found twelve years later, in February 2017, in an abandoned well near a cemetery.
According to British media, Cheshire police confirmed that there are developments in the investigation.
Timeline of the British tourist’s murder in Malia
Young Steven disappeared on September 1, 2005, while out with friends on the first night of his vacation in Malia.
At the end of the evening, he left the pub alone. The 20-year-old was last seen at a bar asking for directions to his hotel, Hotel Frixos, but left in the wrong direction. His trail went cold from that point.
In February 2017, workers near a cemetery in Malia found a human skeleton in an abandoned well, along with his camera and pieces of his clothing.
Since then, there had been no information about who killed the unfortunate young man. Until now.
The confession letter that admits to the crime
Seven years after the macabre discovery of Steven’s bones, police and prosecutors in Greece together with UK police are investigating an alleged confession.
According to the family’s lawyer, Yannis Konstantoudakis, last year an email was sent to Cheshire police from the ex-wife of a 38-year-old British man.
The woman states in the letter that her ex-husband confessed to her that he killed Steven in 2017 – when the body was found – and revealed the horrific details to her while under the influence of drugs.
The British man described to her how he got into a fight with a drunk young man in Malia in 2005. He hit him in the head and the young man died. He then threw the body into a well.
Indeed, as the woman mentions in her letter, her ex-husband then collapsed and threatened to commit suicide.
