A police operation at the Avlonas Special Correctional Facility for Juveniles was carried out on the afternoon of Monday, September 14, by the Organized Crime Division, resulting in a total of six arrests. As part of the operation, officers from the Drug Enforcement Sub-Directorate, assisted by Greece’s EKAM special forces unit and accompanied by a public prosecutor, conducted searches across three cells within the correctional facility.
What was seized at the Avlonas Special Correctional Facility for Juveniles
During the searches, officers discovered and confiscated 1.3 grams of cocaine, 2.5 grams of processed cannabis in the form of a “chocolate bar“, 2.1 grams of raw cannabis, and four mobile phones. Five inmates were arrested in connection with the findings, who, according to the preliminary police investigation, are alleged to have been jointly distributing quantities of narcotics to other prisoners.
A prison guard was also arrested
During the same operation, officers also apprehended a prison guard outside the facility, who was found in possession of a hand-rolled cigarette containing raw cannabis, with a total gross weight of 0.5 grams. The guard was arrested, however, following notification of the competent prosecutor, he was subsequently released, while the case file compiled against him will be submitted to the appropriate authorities. The remaining detainees were brought before the competent prosecutorial authority. According to police, several of those arrested have previously come to the attention of authorities for similar and other offences.
