Albanian criminal Alket Rizai remains at large after failing to return to Domokos Prison — where he had been granted temporary leave — as he is believed to be involved in a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday (13/09) at a beach bar in Anavyssos. Greek Police (ELAS) have launched an extensive manhunt to locate the convicted felon while simultaneously attempting to trace his movements following the bloody incident.

The Immediate Action Unit received reports of gunshots at the scene at approximately 5:15 a.m. on Sunday (13/09). When officers arrived at the beach bar, they found no trace of those involved, but discovered two bullet casings and bloodstains. Shortly afterward, the Kalyvia Health Center notified authorities that two individuals had arrived seeking first aid.

The two injured individuals were identified as a 20-year-old Greek man who had sustained ankle injuries from glass fragments, and a 41-year-old Pakistani man who suffered a through-and-through gunshot wound to the calf. Both men were questioned by police and confirmed to be employees of the establishment. However, their accounts of events differed significantly from each other and from the version provided by the bar’s owner.
What the investigation revealed
The investigation revealed that, after most customers had left for the night, the owner turned down the music. At that moment, Alket Rizai — who was present at the venue with two friends — stepped out into the parking lot, where the group began blasting music from their car. The owner went outside to confront them, fearing the noise would attract police attention.
A brawl broke out, and additional individuals emerged from inside the establishment. During the altercation, according to evidence gathered so far, Alket Rizai allegedly drew a firearm and cocked it.
At that point, an Afghan man who had come out of the bar — reportedly working as a security guard — also drew a weapon and opened fire in Rizai’s direction. The bullets, however, ricocheted and struck the two employees. Following the incident, Alket Rizai and his two companions got into a vehicle and fled the scene. The Afghan man who allegedly fired the shots also escaped and is currently being sought by authorities.
The arrests
So far, the owner of the establishment has been arrested and charged with filing a false statement, harboring a fugitive, obstruction of justice, and incitement to illegal possession and use of firearms. The owner’s wife was also arrested on charges of filing a false statement and incitement to illegal possession and use of firearms.
