Joint statements are currently underway between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and European Council President António Costa, who met at the Maximos Mansion. The Prime Minister briefed Mr. Costa on Ankara’s provocations, sending a clear message that “Greece will not accept instructions from anyone on how to strengthen its defenses.”

“There can be no active war threat or challenge to sovereignty. We want to strengthen Turkey’s European path, but this must go hand in hand with building good neighborly relations with Greece. My country is a peaceful nation that poses no threat to anyone. It will not accept instructions from anyone on how to strengthen its defense shield,” the Prime Minister declared.
The Prime Minister noted that during his meeting with António Costa, they discussed the negotiations on the new EU multiannual financial framework for the 2028–2034 period. “We must reach a political agreement by the end of the year. The Cypriot presidency has laid the groundwork, and we now await the Irish presidency’s proposals on the budget size and resource allocation. Everyone must push to achieve the necessary consensus. Greece has repeatedly stressed that we need a more ambitious budget.”
