New evidence and shocking testimonies are shedding light on the final days before the femicide in Nea Smyrni, revealing the movements of the 48-year-old perpetrator, the threats he allegedly made against his 45-year-old partner, and what he told his daughter shortly before heading to the woman’s home. According to MEGA, people from the families of both the victim and the suspect are speaking out for the first time, describing the moments that led up to the tragedy. A conversation between the perpetrator and the victim’s brother, just days before the murder, has also emerged, adding new details to the case.
The threats made against the 45-year-old victim
Relatives on both sides remain deeply shaken by what happened. The 48-year-old’s close family friend describes the state of his daughter, who, she says, is struggling to come to terms with the fact that her father was the killer. “The girl is absolutely devastated. She never imagined her father could do something like this. She wonders how she’ll live with this stigma — how to put it plainly — because she will always be the murderer’s daughter,” the family friend told MEGA.
For her part, the 45-year-old’s sister-in-law claims that in recent weeks the 48-year-old had been systematically stalking her. “Lately, wherever she went, whatever she did, he was there,” she said. According to her account, the threats directed at the 45-year-old had been growing increasingly frequent. The sister-in-law alleges that the man had sent the victim a photo of himself with a gun, accompanied by threats against both his own life and hers. “He had sent her a photo of the gun to his head saying ‘I’ll kill myself and I’ll kill you and then kill myself.’ We all urged her to go to the police. I don’t know why she didn’t,” she said.
The 45-year-old had decided to end her relationship with the 48-year-old after learning that he was married and had a 19-year-old daughter. From that point on, according to witnesses, his behavior allegedly changed dramatically and the woman’s life became extremely difficult. “For some time, from what his wife told me, things weren’t going well. So there was clearly this conflict he had — apparently within their relationship with the victim,” the family friend noted.
Femicide in Nea Smyrni: The 48-year-old’s attempt to meet the victim’s brother
Just days before the murder, the 48-year-old reportedly attempted to arrange a meeting with the victim’s brother, claiming he wanted to talk about what had happened between him and his sister.
According to MEGA, the exchange went as follows:
- 48-year-old: “I want us to meet for a coffee and talk.”
- Victim’s brother: “Talk about what?”
- 48-year-old: “About what’s going on with your sister.”
- Victim’s brother: “I don’t think the two of us need to meet…”
- 48-year-old: “Come on, mate, it’s not like we’re going to fight — we’ll just have a coffee.”
- Victim’s brother: “Let’s just leave it. Let’s drop it.”
The 48-year-old’s last words to his daughter — the night before the murder
Witness accounts suggest that the 48-year-old’s actions on the night before the crime indicate he had premeditated what he was about to do. According to the family friend, before leaving for the 45-year-old’s home, he met with his daughter and spoke to her in a way that made her sense it might be the last time she would see him.
“He met his daughter and told her: I love you so much. You are my life. But you’ve hurt me because you haven’t supported me. I wanted you by my side, and you may never see me again. This will be the last time you see me.” He then returned home, where he woke his wife, gave her money, and asked her to take care of their daughter. “He came home at four in the morning. He woke his wife up. He told her to come to him. He left some money and said ‘take care of yourselves — I want you to look after our child, look after her with your life.’ He burst into tears, got up, and left,” she recounted.
Shortly afterward, the 48-year-old allegedly went to the apartment building where the 45-year-old lived and waited for her to come out. When she appeared, he ambushed her and, according to reports, forced her to her knees before shooting her.
Eyewitness account of the femicide in Nea Smyrni
A local resident described to MEGA the moments immediately after the gunshots — moments, she says, she will never forget. “First, a woman’s scream, and then another shot. Three shots in total, and then two minutes later, the last one. After the fourth shot, five minutes passed. We were asking each other: what do we do? We understood afterward. The fourth shot rang out very loudly right at my door. As I came downstairs, the man was face down, and the woman was lying on her back. Her face was covered in blood.“
According to case details, the 48-year-old used a firearm that allegedly belonged to the Albanian presidential guard and which he possessed illegally. After killing the 45-year-old, he took his own life. The woman, according to people close to her, had expressed fear over the man’s behavior and had even gone so far as to change the locks on her front door. However, these precautions were not enough to prevent the tragedy.
“My mum was troubled by his behavior,” says the victim’s 18-year-old daughter
The 45-year-old’s daughter reportedly told authorities that she knew about her mother’s relationship with the 48-year-old, and that her mother had decided to break up with him. According to MEGA, she said her mother had expressed concern about his behavior, describing him as extremely jealous and someone who constantly caused her problems.
“I knew my mum had been in a relationship recently. But she had told me she had broken up with him toward the end of February. She was troubled by this particular man’s behavior because he was constantly causing her problems. She told me he was excessively jealous. I wasn’t home that day — I was with my uncle in Agrinio. She obviously told him more things, so as not to worry me. I don’t know — I’m in shock.“
“I lost my father, but I can’t overlook the fact that he became a murderer,” says the perpetrator’s daughter
The 48-year-old’s daughter is also deeply shaken, left to cope with both the loss of her father and the reality that he took a woman’s life. Speaking to MEGA, she described how, despite her grief, she cannot ignore what he did and the impact it has had on the 45-year-old’s family.
“I am devastated by all of this. I can’t believe my father did this. He is my father and I will miss him — I lost my father — but on the other hand, I cannot overlook the fact that he did something terrible, that he became a murderer. He took a life, and he took a mother away from a girl my own age. I am in a very dark place psychologically because of all of this. I bear no responsibility for any of it, and I feel deep sympathy for the other girl’s pain. In a sense, we are all victims. I truly wish this whole story could end here, that we could find peace, and that you would respect our grief and allow all of us to mourn the people we love in our own way.“
