An extended heatwave has been underway since yesterday, with weather conditions remaining clear and temperatures climbing even higher today, Friday (21/08), reaching up to 38°C in some areas — with a scorching weekend still to come. According to the forecast issued by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), isolated rainfall is also expected in some regions, while winds will reach up to force 6 on the Beaufort scale.

In detail, skies will be mostly clear today, with a few temporarily increased clouds during the midday and afternoon hours over the mountainous western mainland, where isolated showers or rain are possible. Winds will blow from northerly directions, force 3 to 5 in the west, and locally up to force 6 in the Aegean.
Temperatures will rise slightly. On the mainland, highs will reach 37–38°C; in the Ionian Islands, 34–36°C; in the Cyclades, 29–30°C; in Crete, 33–34°C; and in the eastern Aegean islands and Dodecanese, 36°C and locally 37°C.
ATTICA
Weather: Generally clear.
Winds: Northerly, force 3 to 4, up to force 5 in the east.
Temperature: 22°C to 36–37°C.
THESSALONIKI
Weather: Generally clear.
Winds: Variable, force 2 to 3, temporarily southerly force 3 to 4 during midday and afternoon.
Temperature: 22°C to 35–36°C.
MACEDONIA, THRACE
Weather: Generally clear with a few temporarily increased clouds over the mountains of Western Macedonia during midday and afternoon hours, when isolated showers or rain are possible.
