Police have filed criminal charges against a 48-year-old bus driver who, as shown in a video that went viral on social media, performed a dangerous U-turn on the Athens–Sounio Avenue. The incident occurred on the afternoon of last Thursday (13.8.26), when the driver allegedly crossed a double solid line and executed a U-turn while vehicles were moving in both directions — a maneuver that, according to police, created a serious risk of a traffic accident.
Identification of the 48-year-old bus driver: What police investigations revealed
According to police, the driver was identified by officers from the Special Information Analysis and Social Media Unit of the Attica Traffic Police Directorate, following a thorough preliminary investigation.
In addition, officers conducted an inspection of the bus’s tachograph, uncovering violations related to the driver’s insufficient rest periods.
The prescribed administrative fines were imposed for these violations.
Criminal charges for dangerous driving were filed against the 48-year-old and submitted to the competent prosecutor.
