Police station footage has been released for the first time, capturing the moments following a deadly car crash that killed a 34-year-old bride in the United States on her wedding night. The video shows Jamie Lee Komoroski crying, protesting, and repeatedly demanding to call her father.
Drunk driver kills bride just hours after her wedding
The footage, released by police, was recorded at the Folly Beach Police Department in South Carolina shortly after Komoroski had caused the crash on April 28, 2023, which claimed the life of Samantha Hutchinson and left her husband and two other people seriously injured.
Komoroski, now 27 years old, had spent the evening drinking at bars in Folly Beach before getting behind the wheel of a rental car. She then slammed into the vehicle carrying 34-year-old bride Samantha Hutchinson, her 36-year-old husband Aric Hutchinson, and two of their wedding guests — all of whom had just left the wedding reception.
Samantha Hutchinson was killed instantly in the violent collision, while her husband and two passengers sustained injuries. At the time of the crash, Komoroski was traveling at approximately 65 miles per hour (105 km/h) in a 25 mph (40 km/h) zone, with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.
“I just want this to be over and go home”
In the police station footage, Komoroski is seen crying and pleading with officers to let her call her father. “I just want this to be over and go home,” she is heard saying. When an officer tells her she cannot make a phone call yet, she snaps back: “I can’t call my dad?”
She then goes on to question the very reasons for her detention, saying: “What did I do? Nobody has proof of anything I did, so give me the right to call my dad.”
Upon noticing a security camera mounted on the wall, she begins addressing it directly. She tells the camera she is crying because she is not being allowed to contact her father, and insists that the officers have not proven anything against her. She then sarcastically comments on her own behavior, saying: “Oh, I’m acting like a little baby.”
Sentenced to 25 years in prison
The case was brought to court and Komoroski pleaded guilty to a series of charges, including felony DUI resulting in death or serious injury and reckless homicide. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
