At least five dead and 41 missing after a fire broke out on a ferry off the coast of Madura Island in Indonesia, the country’s search and rescue agency announced today.

A total of 271 people were on board the vessel, including both crew members and passengers. By Sunday afternoon, rescue teams had successfully pulled 225 people out of the water alive. Meanwhile, local authorities are continuing their intensive search operation across the surrounding sea area in an effort to locate those still unaccounted for.
The search and rescue operation is ongoing.
The ferry had departed from Surabaya and was heading to the city of Makassar, in the south of Sulawesi Island.
