By order of the competent prosecutor, the 44-year-old tanker truck driver who had been arrested by traffic police following the deadly road accident in Halkidiki has been released. According to the results of the tests he underwent, the driver’s breathalyzer test came back clean.

The tragic accident, which shocked the entire country, occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday (15/7) near Metamorfosi, on the provincial road between Polygyros and Agios Nikolaos, and claimed the lives of a couple from Moldova and their infant child.

Meanwhile, the sole surviving member of the family — their 7-year-old daughter — is fighting for her life. The young girl is intubated and receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hippokration General Hospital in Thessaloniki, having sustained extremely serious injuries.
She was initially transferred to Polygyros Hospital, then to Papageorgiou Hospital where she underwent two surgical operations the previous evening, before being transferred this morning to Hippokration Hospital, where she remains in serious condition.
The young girl has suffered severe traumatic brain injuries, as well as fractures to the chest and femur.
