The 46-year-old woman who has been living in the United Kingdom for several years and was being sought as a suspect in connection with the Marfin bank arson attack of 2010 — which claimed the lives of three people, including a pregnant woman — has contacted the relevant authorities. Attorney Anna Paparousou, who represents the two arrested 42-year-olds, stated during the television program “10′ me Tono” that she had spoken with the 46-year-old, who immediately reached out to the appropriate authorities as soon as she learned she was being sought in connection with the case.
According to the attorney, the 46-year-old has declared her innocence and expressed her intention to present herself voluntarily to Greek authorities, stating characteristically: “I am here and I want to appear before the authorities in the proper manner.” Paparousou added: “She will appear before the authorities normally — she is not hiding, she declares her innocence, and she wants to face the charges the right way.”
When asked about the extent of the 46-year-old’s involvement in the case, Ms. Paparousou stated: “Since I have not studied the case file in its entirety, I can tell you that this investigation originates from an anonymous email, and there are various legal issues surrounding that. This email is being treated as witness testimony — however, that witness will not be present in court. As far as I am able to tell, no attempt has been made to identify or locate this individual. Every witness is obligated to disclose the source of their testimony and must be present during the evidentiary process. How is it possible that an entire case file has been built on the basis of an anonymous email?”
