The crisis within SYRIZA can no longer be concealed behind procedural disagreements. The controversy surrounding the composition of the Central Committee has erupted into a new flashpoint, with senior party figures publicly accusing the leadership of a lack of transparency as internal conflict breaks into the open. The decision not to disclose the body’s composition in a timely manner has triggered a wave of backlash and opened a new chapter of dissent. Following Nikos Pappas, Tryfon Alexiadis publicly objected to the fact that the committee’s membership has not been announced — and that, as members were informed, it would only be revealed on the eve of the session. The matter quickly escalated beyond a simple internal complaint. The intervention of Pavlos Polakis, who shared Alexiadis’s statements publicly, sent a clear message to the party leadership. The SYRIZA MP, who has remained an active and vocal presence throughout these developments, left every option on the table — including the possibility of an open challenge to the current leadership.

Alexiadis’s posts
In his first Facebook post, Tryfon Alexiadis wrote the following:
“Transparency, democracy, equality, and solidarity have always been — and remain — core principles in the way SYRIZA operates, and the party’s statute sets out clear boundaries and procedures. I am compelled to inform party members publicly, for reasons I will explain below. On 2 July 2026, I sent an email requesting specific information, in my capacity as a member of both the Political Secretariat and the Central Committee, following issues that came to light during the most recent Central Committee session.
To this day, I have received no email response — only text messages with promises that were never kept. I am calling on the President and the Deputy Secretary, at this eleventh hour, to provide information that should be self-evident. Given how critical this period is, and the polling position SYRIZA currently finds itself in, we cannot afford to be distracted by storms in a teacup. What we need is unity, democracy, and dialogue. It would be a grave political failure — regardless of how the Central Committee vote turns out — if there were even the suspicion that votes on SYRIZA’s future were cast, in an “organised” manner, by members who had already resigned or by individuals who now belong to other parties. It goes without saying that this public statement is being made precisely because I have not been provided with the membership details of the Central Committee — a fact that reflects poorly on those who treat party data as their personal property.“
In a second post, he published the email he received from SYRIZA’s secretary, Anastasia Sapouna, which he said confirmed his allegations.
“PERSISTING IN OPACITY
The email I received today, which I am sharing below, unfortunately confirms that certain people at Koumoundourou [SYRIZA headquarters] understand neither democratic procedures nor the gravity of the moment. SHAMEFUL!” he wrote.
Polakis fires back: “The bottom is where every downward spiral ends”
MP Pavlos Polakis struck a more aggressive tone when he reshared Alexiadis’s comments, warning that the party had hit rock bottom.
“I am sharing two posts published today by comrade Tryfon Alexiadis, which REVEAL:
the disgraceful attempt by the leadership group under Famellos to conceal the vote tally data from the Central Committee elections, in order to prevent any credible scrutiny of the body’s legitimacy following a series of resignations!
Every downward spiral eventually hits the bottom!! MANIPULATIONS OF THIS KIND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO STAND!!!” Polakis wrote.
What SYRIZA’s secretary says
SYRIZA-PS Deputy Secretary Anastasia Sapouna responded to the allegations raised by party figures with the following points:
- The updated composition of the Central Committee (including all replacements) will be published on Friday at syriza.gr.
- Replacements are processed automatically by the relevant party official, in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Electoral Committee, with no possibility of political interference.
- The party’s financial balance sheet for 2025 has already been posted on the party website, and an audit by the relevant parliamentary committee has recently been completed.
- The budget for 2026 has already been discussed within the party’s governing bodies and is available to all members of the Political Secretariat.
