“The tragic death of Vagia Nestora confirms the murderous and inhumane nature of blind violence in public life,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, shortly after Hippokration Hospital announced that the 72-year-old mother of New Democracy politician Afroditi Nestora had passed away, following an arson attack carried out by unknown perpetrators at the family’s home.

“No one can remain inactive or limit themselves to hypocritical words of condemnation,” the Prime Minister stated, adding: “Zero tolerance for bloodshed and the divisiveness of extremism! The rule of law and the unity of society must now banish terrorism to where it belongs: to the margins! Let the light of the many dispel the darkness of the few.”
Statement by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis
“The tragic death of Vagia Nestora confirms the murderous and inhumane nature of blind violence in public life. No one can remain inactive or limit themselves to hypocritical words of condemnation. Zero tolerance for bloodshed and the divisiveness of extremism! The rule of law and the unity of society must now banish terrorism to where it belongs: to the margins! Greece worked hard to achieve its economic recovery from bankruptcy. It also endured great pain to overcome the divisions of the past. It will never go back. It is time, therefore, to raise a wall of maturity and determination against those who seek to drag us backwards — with the government standing on the front line of this fight. Because stability and normalcy are prerequisites for prosperity. And security alongside justice are the pillars of democracy.
My thoughts are with the victim’s family. With Afroditi, her father, and her loved ones. But also with all the New Democracy officials who were struck so cowardly. Our grief will become strength and resolve. And nothing will stop our country from moving forward.”
Kyriakos Mitsotakis: “The perpetrators will be treated as common criminals”
Earlier, speaking from Hippokration Hospital — where he visited the injured New Democracy officials and their families — Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered a message of zero tolerance toward violence and assured that those responsible for the deadly attack would be brought to justice. “Violence has no place in a civilized society. Those who cloak themselves in the mantle of social struggle in order to carry out such acts are nothing more than common criminals. They will be treated as such. I have absolute confidence in the Hellenic Police and the judicial authorities. We will find those who committed this despicable act and bring them to justice, so that full accountability is established,” he emphasized.
