Starting today, Wednesday (17/06), the new digital platform PosoKanei.gov.gr is officially going live, replacing the previous e-Consumer platform and aiming to become a powerful new price comparison tool for consumers.
PosoKanei.gov: What the platform includes
The platform will be officially presented at 12:30 by Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos, Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, and the Director of the Independent Authority for Market Supervision and Consumer Protection, Despoina Tsangaraki. The platform covers thousands of products across essential categories, including food, detergents, cleaning supplies, personal care items, paper products, and pet supplies. Through the digital application, consumers will be able to compare prices in real time across major supermarket chains and identify the most cost-effective option.
The digital shopping basket
One of the platform’s key innovations — designed to bring greater transparency to consumer shopping — is the digital shopping basket. Users can add the products they need and instantly see the total cost of the same basket across different supermarket chains. Additionally, PosoKanei.gov.gr will maintain a two-month price history, allowing consumers to check whether a promotional offer is genuine or whether it was preceded by a prior price increase.
Even in early testing, significant price differences have already been recorded for the very same products. A notable example is a specific brand of long-life milk, which was found to be sold at prices varying by more than €0.60 per package across different chains.
The goal: boosting market transparency
The government’s aim is to enhance market transparency, make everyday shopping easier for consumers, and strengthen competition among businesses — ultimately curbing price hikes and driving more competitive pricing across the board.
