The Political Committee of New Democracy convened today to elect Konstantinos Kyranakis as the party’s new secretary. Kyranakis was unanimously elected by acclamation as the new secretary of ND, and in his first address following the election, he thanked party members for the trust they have shown him over all these years. In his inaugural speech from this position, he initially said: “I feel the need to thank you from the bottom of my heart. For 12 years you believed in me, trusted me, gave me opportunities. A new generation that wants to step forward. In Parliament, in local government. You opened the door for us, included us in electoral lists, and gave us a platform.”
Kyranakis: “With Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the helm of major patriotic choices”
“We belong to a generation that experienced the entire crisis period during the most critical time of our lives, when our dreams were being lost. That left for abroad and experienced the stereotypes of the crisis. That lived through a wave of massive unemployment, and when we found work, we saw wages falling and companies closing down. Half left for abroad while others stayed to fight,” Kyranakis continued. “You all remember what state the country was in, what its image abroad was like, and how our partners treated us. Look at how they see us now. The knot in the stomach from that period belongs to the distant past.”
“We live in a Greece with a president in the Eurogroup, which brought its children back, with universities free from occupations – the greatest victory of DAP and ONNED – a Greece that digitized the state, that protected its borders. In a Greece that may be small on land but great at sea. A global maritime power that produces again, that rewards whoever invests, exports, produces in the Greek economy. With Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis at the helm of major patriotic choices,” the new ND secretary also said.
“The battle ahead is not just electoral, but a battle of ideas,” he commented regarding the elections.
