A young woman experienced absolute terror when she was attacked by an attempted rapist on Mount Lycabettus, just meters from the Prime Minister’s residence, where stringent security measures are in place. As the victim described, the man chased her, with the young woman jumping into a ditch to save herself. The appearance of a passing taxi proved to be her salvation.
Shocking testimony from Lycabettus attack victim: “He grabbed me, I pushed him and fell down”
The shocking incident was described by the attack victim speaking to Star TV. According to her testimony, everything started when she was returning from work. Walking down from Mount Lycabettus unsuspectingly, she hadn’t realized that a man was following her. “He was sitting on the small bridge waiting. It’s not that he was specifically following me. Whatever woman had passed at that moment, he would have done the same to her. After I passed by him, I was talking on the phone, I started going down the stairs before reaching the street and suddenly I heard someone quickly coming down the stairs. He came, grabbed me, I pushed him and fell down as I tried to get away. I got up quickly, he tried to come at me again, I pushed him again and then I just dove down the slope”, the young woman said.
“I started running because I saw a taxi and got inside”
Although injured from the fall, she managed to run out to the street. Her boyfriend was on the phone and could hear her cries for help. A few meters away, a young man was crossing Sarantapichou Street and a taxi was passing by. They heard the screams.
“I got down to the street and started running because I saw a taxi and got inside. I told the taxi driver ‘help, catch him, that’s him, catch him’. The taxi driver got out and shouted at him ‘what did you do?’. The young man chased after him but unfortunately couldn’t catch him”, the victim added.
According to the victim’s description, the perpetrator is a foreign national from Pakistan or Bangladesh, aged 30 to 35. Police are searching for him and plainclothes officers, mainly women, are already in the area looking for him.
