According to the Hellenic Police, officers from the Social Security Department participated, with assistance from the Criminological Research Directorate, in research and evidence collection conducted at a logistics company in the Attica region.
How the criminal organization operated
More specifically, as determined, the criminal group was hierarchically structured and operated since 2019. It was also revealed that its members had established companies through which they had commercialized over 400 supplements that lacked proper circulation permits.
The distribution of illegal products was carried out through hundreds of websites and social media pages. To deceive their victims, who mainly came from European Union countries, they frequently used the names and images of celebrities and fictitious doctors.
During the coordinated day of action, searches were conducted at a total of 113 locations in Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Moldova, resulting in the arrest of key group members. Simultaneously, 196 websites in Romania used for product distribution were shut down, while large quantities of illegal supplements were seized, most of which were found at the criminal group’s central warehouse in Bulgaria.
€240 million turnover
Additionally, assets worth €1.8 million were frozen in Poland, while the criminal group’s illegal turnover is estimated to reach €240 million.
It should be noted that authorities from Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary, Greece, Italy, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, and Moldova participated in the operation.
