Donald Trump launched a fierce attack on a journalist aboard Air Force One during his return flight from China, following a question about Washington’s goals in the war with Iran, labeling him “fake news” and claiming that his reporting amounts to “treason.”
Trump: “We had a complete military victory, but people like you don’t write the truth”
Trump claimed that the United States achieved a “complete military victory” against Iran and that this is recognized by everyone. “When you write that they’re doing well militarily, when they have no navy, no air force, no leaders… we destroyed 85% of their missile production! We had a complete military victory, but guys like you write it wrong! You should be ashamed of that. We had a complete military victory, but people like you don’t write the truth,” he said, addressing the reporter.
“You should be ashamed of yourself”
The tension escalated when the American president continued his personal attack, saying: “I actually think it’s kind of like treason what you write, but you guys at the New York Times and CNN, I would say you’re the worst. And everybody knows it, that’s why your subscriptions have gone down so much. You know, the Times subscriptions have gone down so much because they see you saying something like that.”
Trump also accused the reporter of following orders from his editors. “Your editors tell you what to write and you write it. You should be ashamed of yourself,” he stated characteristically.
