Unstable weather conditions are expected starting tomorrow, Friday (15/05), as the weather will be generally clear but local thunderstorms will develop in places. Showers are expected to occur in most areas of the country, mainly on Saturday, accompanied by African dust.
Weather: Detailed forecast for Friday (15/05)
Specifically, weather will be generally clear on Friday, May 15 in most areas of the country, with plenty of sunshine and only brief temporary clouds. However, local rains and showers will not be absent, mainly in parts of northern and western Greece. More specifically, temporarily increased clouds will be noted initially in central Macedonia, the Ionian Sea and western mainland areas, where local rains or showers are expected in the morning hours, while isolated thunderstorms may also develop.
From midday and especially in the afternoon, instability will move to the mountainous mainland parts of central and northern Greece, with temporary rainfall.
In the morning hours, visibility in mainland areas will be locally limited, while fog will also form.
Winds will blow from western-southwestern directions with intensity 2 to 4 Beaufort and locally up to 5 Beaufort, while in the southern Aegean they will temporarily reach 6 Beaufort. Gradual weakening is expected from evening.
Temperature will not show significant change and will remain at normal levels for the season. In western and northern areas it will reach 22 to 24 degrees Celsius, in other areas 24 to 25 degrees, while locally in eastern mainland areas it will touch 26 to 27 degrees Celsius.
Weather in Attica and Thessaloniki
Attica
In Attica, generally clear weather with plenty of sunshine is expected. From midday and afternoon hours, clouds will develop mainly in the northeastern parts of the region, where local rains or showers will occur.
Temperature will range from 14 to 25 degrees Celsius, while locally it will reach 26 degrees.
Winds will blow western-northwestern 2 to 4 Beaufort and locally up to 5 Beaufort, while from midday they will turn southerly with the same intensity.
Thessaloniki
In Thessaloniki, some periods of sunshine with few clouds are expected, which will periodically increase, bringing temporary local rains or showers both in morning and midday-afternoon hours.
Temperature will range from 12 to 23 degrees Celsius, while locally it will reach 24 degrees.
Winds will initially be variable 2 to 4 Beaufort and from midday will turn southeastern with the same intensity.
Weather: African dust returns Saturday (16/05)
Saturday’s weather will start with sunshine and few clouds, but from midday onwards clouds will increase initially in western areas and gradually in the rest of the country, causing local rains and isolated thunderstorms.
From afternoon, phenomena in western and northern areas will intensify, while during the night they will be limited to northeastern parts.
Meanwhile, a new transport of African dust is expected, mainly in western, central and southern parts of the country. The highest concentrations are expected in Peloponnese, Cyclades and Crete.
Winds will blow from southern directions 3 to 5 and locally up to 6 to 7 Beaufort, while from afternoon in the Ionian they will turn western-northwestern.
Temperature will show a slight rise in most areas and will reach 23 to 25 degrees in western and northern areas, 26 to 27 degrees in other areas and locally in eastern mainland and Crete 28 degrees Celsius.
Weather on Sunday (17/05)
On Sunday, in eastern Macedonia and Thrace, temporarily increased clouds with local rains or showers are expected mainly during midday and afternoon hours.
In the rest of the country weather will be generally clear, with dominant sunshine and only few clouds in mainland areas at midday and afternoon, where there is a possibility of temporary showers, mainly in the mountains of Epirus.
African dust transport will persist in southern parts of the country, however towards evening gradual removal is expected.
Winds will blow western-northwestern 3 to 5 and locally 6 Beaufort, while temperature will show a slight drop mainly in western areas and will remain in other areas at normal levels for the season.
