Shocking new evidence has come to light regarding the brutal murder of 21-year-old Nikitas by a 54-year-old man in Ammoudara, Heraklion, last Tuesday afternoon. According to statements made by the victim’s family lawyer, Alexandra Spanaki, on Mega’s Live News, there are witness testimonies that the 54-year-old’s car, in which his 56-year-old wife was riding as a passenger, was stationary and began moving only when the murdered 21-year-old’s car appeared, indicating that he was notified by someone.
“Witnesses saw the 54-year-old stopped and starting to move as soon as Nikitas appeared. He was stopped and started moving only when Nikitas appeared,” the lawyer said. Additionally, Ms. Spanaki focused on the role of the perpetrator’s wife, emphasizing that she threatened Nikitas’ mother. “I want the trial to happen so he can understand that I’m not to blame and to soften my pain, Nikistratos told me,” Ms. Spanaki noted.
“The most despicable thing of all is that after the shooting and while the child had fallen dead, he was kicking him in the street. It would be most proper for them to remain silent,” she emphasized.
Crete murder: Perpetrator blames the 21-year-old and his family
The 54-year-old and his wife were ordered to be remanded in custody yesterday and are now expected to be transferred outside Crete for security reasons. In their neighborhood, time seems to have stopped at the afternoon when the dramatic events unfolded.
The 54-year-old claims he became a murderer because his mind was clouded. He insists he had not premeditated the crime.
“I was overwhelmed by rage. I could no longer perceive and think calmly. I was now a madman. I pulled out the revolver and fired, I don’t even remember how many times, killing him,” the 54-year-old claimed.
“I was clouded. I was in a state of paroxysm, delirium. In a state of bottomless pain and terrible anger that shut down my thinking, without realizing it, I crashed into the car driven by the deceased. He then, instead of getting up to leave, got out of the car and attacked me, kicking me with both feet,” the 54-year-old added.
The 54-year-old’s wife, who is charged with complicity and was also remanded in custody, claims she tried to stop her husband but failed.
“I honestly did everything humanly possible to deter him, unfortunately I didn’t succeed. All the way home, I was crying and mourning and telling him ‘what have you done, what have you done?’ As soon as we came to our senses a bit, he told me he wanted to go surrender, which I also supported, as happened,” said the 54-year-old’s wife.
“We were in a climate of deep sadness and pain, suddenly we accidentally encountered the deceased, who as soon as he noticed us from afar, made an indecent gesture toward Kostas,” the 54-year-old’s wife stated.
The 54-year-old perpetrator’s defense
The 54-year-old swerved and hit the victim’s vehicle in oncoming traffic. Immediately after, a young person’s life would be cut short.
“The images I witnessed will remain forever etched in my memory. All I have to tell you is that the one who killed the deceased was not my Kostas. It was another person. He didn’t even have the appearance of my Kostas. He was a madman, an unclean spirit, without contact with the environment,” said the 54-year-old’s wife.
During his marathon defense, the 54-year-old alternated between declaring remorse and expressing hatred for the 21-year-old he killed.
“I hadn’t closed my eyes for at least 10 days. I was crying non-stop because the day of Saint Irene was approaching, when 9 years ago my nephew was killed in a traffic accident, at the exact same spot as my only child,” the 54-year-old stated in his defense.
Both the 54-year-old and his wife claimed that the spark of the crime was ignited by a gesture from the 21-year-old, something that has not emerged from the investigation.
“Returning from the cemetery with my wife, I was already in an extremely burdened psychological state, immersed in grief and pain over the loss of my son. On the road to Heraklion I accidentally encountered the 21-year-old and thought he mocked me with an indecent gesture.”
