The Israeli military announced that alongside the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, Alireza Tangsiri, whose death was confirmed, they also eliminated the head of Naval intelligence, Behnam Rezaei, as well as the rest of their leadership. Specifically, while Tangsiri had gone to meet with Revolutionary Guards, including Behnam Rezaei, the Israeli Air Force conducted a nighttime raid on the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas. It should be noted that the IDF has not named other top commanders who lost their lives in the raid.
Who was Alireza Tangsiri killed in Israeli strike
It is noted that Tangsiri served as chief of the Revolutionary Guard Navy. According to the military “over the years, Tangsiri was responsible for attacks on oil tankers and commercial ships and personally threatened freedom of navigation and trade in the Strait of Hormuz and in international maritime space.”
During the current war, the Israeli Defense Forces report that “he led efforts to close the Strait of Hormuz and advanced terrorist attacks in the maritime sector, one of the main culprits for disrupting the global economy”.
At the same time, the Israeli Defense Forces state that the assassination of Tangsiri and the IRGC Navy leadership “constitutes another significant blow to the IRGC’s command and control groups and its capabilities to orchestrate terrorist activities in the maritime sector against countries in the region”.
