A shocking crime occurred in Wales, with the perpetrator being a disturbed teenager who killed his mother with a hammer after receiving advice from an Artificial Intelligence platform. The case has shocked public opinion, as beyond the family tragedy, it raises concerns about the dangerous combination of toxic online communities, misogyny, and uncontrolled use of AI tools.
Wales: Teen beats mother to death with hammer following artificial intelligence advice
Angela Celis struggled for 18 years with her son, Tristan Roberts from north Wales, who was lost in a toxic online world. She tried to support her child, who had serious difficulties and ultimately found herself betrayed in the most horrific way when she was murdered by him.
Tristan Roberts had been diagnosed from an early age with autism and ADHD, while facing significant behavioral and social integration problems. Despite his mother’s efforts to secure psychological and social support through mental health services, his condition did not improve substantially.
As the years passed, he became increasingly isolated, spending countless hours on the Internet and particularly on platforms like Discord, where he began participating in communities that promoted violence, misogyny, and the idealization of serial killers. His obsession with violence became more intense, with the young man watching series and movies about murderers, admiring dark characters and beginning to develop the belief that his mother was responsible for all his life’s problems.

“Immersed” in the dark world of the internet and AI
As investigative authorities revealed, Roberts had created 16 different Discord accounts, keeping thousands of conversation screenshots. In these, he openly expressed hatred for women and spoke about revenge. In notes found on his computer, he wrote that he was no longer Tristan, but another self named “Alex,” while describing his life as “hell” and stating that he needed to get rid of the “burden” holding him back, meaning his mother.
In his posts he clearly stated that his motive was hatred for women, while seeking confirmation from other users for his thoughts. Shocking is the fact that Roberts used the AI tool DeepSeek to ask for advice about which weapon would be suitable for an “inexperienced killer.” Initially, the system refused to respond, however, he managed to bypass it by claiming he was writing a book about serial killers and thus managed to extract information that strengthened his crime planning.

Warning signs that were ignored
Roberts on his 18th birthday visited a local “The Range” store, where he bought a knife and disposable razors, showing his ID to prove he was 18 years old, the required legal age. The purchase aroused the cashier’s suspicion, who kept a copy of the teenager’s receipt, while the next day the young man bought another knife.
His mother had started to fear her son some time ago. In fact, a few days after his 18th birthday, she sent a message to a social worker expressing her concern about her child’s purchase of a knife and hammer. In a note on her phone she wrote: “Why does he need these things? Is he planning to hurt me or himself?”
His older brother, Ethan, was also worried and had installed cameras in the house before returning to university, as reported by the Daily Mail. However, without either of them knowing, Roberts’ plans were becoming increasingly extreme. On the morning of October 18th, he posted messages on Discord mentioning that he stood over his mother holding a hammer while she slept, but didn’t use it.

The night of the murder
On the evening of October 23rd, Roberts put his plan into action, with the attack starting late at night and lasting over four hours. Specifically, he repeatedly struck his mother with a hammer and held her captive in the house. Despite her injuries, Angela begged him to call for help, even offering to protect him.
Eventually, he convinced her to leave the house under the pretense that he would provide medical help. He led her to a natural shelter, where he beat her to death with a hammer he had purchased online. After the murder, the perpetrator returned home and tried to cover his tracks. He reconnected to Discord and wrote that he had had “the craziest day,” describing the attack in detail.
Relatives tried to contact Angela, with her son answering from her phone pretending to be her. Finally, it’s worth noting that when arrested, he calmly asked police officers if the body found was his mother.
