“In 1821 our ancestors took on the responsibility of freedom, today let us honor them by exercising freedom united, reconciled and with responsibility. This is what the fighters of 1821 deserve,” declared the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tassoulas, after the military parade in Athens for March 25th.

As he said, “today we celebrate and honor the liberation revolution of 1821 that broke out 205 years ago, proclaiming before God and man the political existence of the Greek Nation. The revolution began against the Ottoman Empire and against all quantitative data and led to international recognition in 1830. It continued in 1864, through the Balkan Wars until 1947 with the liberation of the Dodecanese.”
“This glorious beginning we celebrate today with secured freedom within a world that is multiply troubled and uncertain,” added Mr. Tassoulas. “In 1821 our ancestors took on the responsibility of freedom, today let us honor them by exercising freedom united, reconciled and with responsibility. This is what the fighters of 1821 deserve, as our own lesson towards those teachings. Many years for the Annunciation of the Theotokos,” concluded the President of the Republic.
