A new storm system is expected on Tuesday in our country, changing the weather scenario with rainfall that will likely persist until Friday across most of the territory. According to meteorologist and former director of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, Thodoris Kolyda, temperatures will show a noticeable but temporary drop, with maximum values not exceeding 13 degrees Celsius even in the eastern and southern parts of the country.
Weather turns bad: How the week will unfold
Meanwhile, winds will strengthen significantly from northern directions, reaching locally 8 to 9 Beaufort scale, mainly on Thursday and Friday in the Aegean and southern regions. Snowfall is expected in the mountainous areas of mainland Greece, while at higher altitudes it may be locally significant.
At the same time, meteorologist Dimitris Ziakopoulos estimates that the new week will unfold with rain, strong winds and lower temperatures, with the scenario resembling winter more than spring, despite the fact that the spring equinox is approaching.
According to him, rainfall – even if temporary – is expected to occur almost throughout the country, with greater intensity in areas such as eastern Central Greece, Euboea, the Peloponnese, the Cyclades and Crete. From mid-week the winds will turn to easterly – northeasterly and will strengthen, reaching locally 8 and possibly 9 Beaufort scale in the Aegean.
Temperature will gradually decrease, with the lowest values being recorded in the second half of the week. In northern Greece, the chances of frost during nighttime and early morning hours are increasing.
