Outrage and disgust have been sparked by a case of alleged gang rape in Crete involving a 17-year-old girl and 5 men, including two minors. According to flashnews.gr, two girls – a 16-year-old Bulgarian and a 17-year-old Greek – reported that on the night of Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday, March 12, they found themselves with 6 men initially at an accommodation and later in a room.
Crete: What the minors told authorities
The Bulgarian girl told authorities that she willingly had sex with one of them while under the influence of drugs. However, the 17-year-old Greek girl alleged that 5 of the men raped her without her consent. These included a 15-year-old Bulgarian, an 18-year-old Bulgarian, a 17-year-old Greek who was filming the acts, a 21-year-old Greek, and another 27-year-old Greek man.
Additionally, there was another 21-year-old Greek man who did not participate in the rape but insulted her sexual dignity through gestures. Police authorities in Crete located the alleged perpetrators as well as the mobile phone containing the recorded videos.
Arrest of 10 individuals
They immediately proceeded to arrest 10 people, specifically the men mentioned above as well as the 16-year-old Bulgarian minor for drug-related charges. Additionally, 3 mothers were arrested for child neglect, specifically 2 Bulgarian women, one 47 years old and the other 46 years old, and a 59-year-old Albanian woman.
The charges vary by case and include rape with threat of serious and immediate danger to life or physical integrity, sexual acts without victim consent, sexual dignity violations, child pornography, possession of child pornographic material, violation of telephone communications, and drug law violations.
